This meme is here to let prospective characters mingle ICly with the characters already in the game and each other. It helps us introduce various scenarios that you're likely to encounter in Soul Campaign and the different places used in the game. Hopefully, this helps you figure out if the game is really suited to your needs or not -- otherwise, just have fun!

The scenarios for this cycle are:
1. Shibusen has run out of free residential units! You are now stuck in one of their dorms with three other people. There's no privacy at all!
2. You find yourself trapped in the Holocaust mall during a blizzard. It's not as nice as you might think when there's a kishin egg or two prowling about.
3. There's a disease spreading that gives any meister or weapon who doesn't have a partner boils on their faces. You have exactly three hours before it reaches you -- time to make use of partner activities to get one. Please indicate if you're a meister or a weapon on your subject header.
4. It's mission time! You're suddenly thrown into a mission with a stranger (or several strangers). Do you flee or fight? (Current mission board is here.)
5. Your character was brought into Shibusen with a big problem. It seems that the BREW thought it would be funny if guys were girls and girls were guys. You have to race up the Shibusen steps to get the antidote, but you have to drink it with one or more people. Apparently, BREW likes company?

Just choose any one randomly, or make up your own, we don't mind! To make things simpler, please follow this subject line:

[Neji nods shortly- like he hadn't seen the man's name plastered in the Bingo Book before, or recognized him the instant they ran into him. The grin is too sharp for his tastes, but there isn't anything malevolent about it so far as he can tell]

Well enough. [Because he can't honestly say the same, and moves past him toward the door with a glance back] I'll show you the area you'll be patrolling, then.

[Kisame replaces his hat and strolls out after him, quietly agreeable. There's really nothing too strange about following around a kid like this--even if Neji is several years younger than even Itachi, the sentiment is the same, and age is far from being an accurate predictor of skill. So long as Neji proves himself worth the deference, he doubts there'll be any problems.]

How's the schedule look?

[He looks down at the paper to give his eyes something else to do instead of looking back every few seconds to make sure Kisame isn't suddenly intending to attack him. Even without the Byakugan, he still feels his blind spot keenly like a hole burned into his spine- vulnerability]

You're on shift two from 6 in the evening until midnight with Celty Sturlson and Steve Rogers. Either Lain or myself will be in contact with you for updates every so often unless you prefer reports- verbal or otherwise. You're free to raise issues or concerns to us and we'll do our best to address them.

A note, however, that this world's laws work differently. Apprehend threats and avoid using lethal force if at all possible. Shibusen has their own system for handling them.

Check-ins are fine by me; can't say I'm familiar with either of those names yet, though.

[Reports are always so formal..... He's never liked the idea of them while out on the field itself. They're appropriate for summing up missions, but when you're still currently on duty, agility and flexibility need to characterize any good communication.]

So, just how does this system for Shibusen work, some sort of tribunal?

That's fine; I'll introduce you so that you know them at least, seeing as they'll be your patrol partners. Beyond that, it's up to your discretion how closely you work together. So long as the shift is covered and no complications arise as a result, it doesn't matter.

[Neji idly wonders how good Kisame is with taijutsu]

From what I've observed of Shibusen, they handle crimes and misdemeanors on a case-by-case basis, reviewing the severity of an individual's actions before deciding on an appropriate consequence. They're rather lax in that department unfortunately, but this isn't our world.

At any rate, our job in this capacity is to keep the city and it's citizens safe- from both outside and inside sources.

[Kisame grimaces outright at that description; it sounds like something as soft and inefficient as an Academy would institute. He can't say he agrees with how effective it is at all, but..... well, since when does he have any say in legal proceedings? He's a shinobi, not a magistrate. He enforces rather than legislates. And more recently, he's torn down government systems rather than helped them function, but that's neither here nor there.]

No wonder they need people like us around, if that's how they take care of threats and criminals around here..... What can you tell me about these new partners, then?

[He doesn't agree with it either, but he'll follow what's written in his job description. Still, his tone takes on a lighter note for the topic at hand- sounding rather amused by the prospect of Kisame working with them]

They're interesting. You'll find Celty doesn't speak in the traditional sense, but she listens and can otherwise communicate effectively. Steve Rogers is a well-meaning individual; a little like someone you may recall. He's rather adept in a number of areas.

A mute, eh? Well, so long as we can understand each other, I'm sure it'll be fine.

[He's used to working in near-silence often enough, but he's not entirely sure he likes that hint of amusement he hears. Neji obviously recognizes him, and obviously likes the idea of the three of them working together--when Kisame is fairly certain Neji probably doesn't like him at all. This probably can't mean anything good.]

.....Just who am I supposed to be recalling?

Something of that sort. And you should know when you meet him.

[And if that isn't particularly helpful, well, he's not too worried about it]

In any case, Lain and I can often be found on the outside wall at some point during each shift, monitoring the outer ring of the city. ..I should also tell you that my Meister ability is very similar to the Byakugan, so if something needs to be looked into, I should be able to do so.

If you say so.....

[Kisame arches his eyebrows dubiously at Neji, but doesn't push the matter farther; that answer doesn't give him any new information at all, so he can only assume that Neji wants him to be surprised. No point in worrying about it now, though..... He just shrugs a little to himself and tucks the matter into the back of his mind, nodding in understanding.]

Not bad..... I'll keep that in mind. What does Lain do?

...Lain transforms into a compact computer. It doesn't sound like much, but in short, we specialize in reconnaissance to an advanced degree between my capabilities and hers.

I don't know about anyone else, but you'll never hear me arguing about more scouts. If you're doing your job right, guys like me are barely supposed to realize you're working at all, you know?

[And speaking of Lain... Out of the building storms the tiny girl; in one hand is a tattered cloth (which, upon further investigation, must belong to the skirt she's wearing as the edges of it look rather frayed), and in the other hand is the scissors she sued to cut the skirt]

Neji! The hell is this, why did you let Lain out wearing this? [She gestures to the skirt as if it's some kind of horrible creature that attached itself to her legs without permission] This is the ugliest effing skirt I've ever seen in my life! So I fixed it, but it's fraying!

[Clearly not the best idea, but still, she storms over, huffing a little-- but her tone is instantly diverted when she catches sight of Kisame. Eyebrows raise]

Did you take a wrong turn trying to get to the ocean, Ariel?

[Kisame turns as he sees a little girl stalking out of the building towards them, raising his eyebrows in return; she doesn't even look like she should be out of Academy yet, much less in the Watch. Is this Lain, then? Why is she referring to herself in the third person, if that's the case? But if she isn't, then why the hell should she care what he lets someone else wear, and why would she be wearing it herself?]

.....Besides that, who the hell is Ariel? That's definitely a woman's name, annd he's pretty sure he can't possibly be mistaken for a woman..... probably some nauticul term or another, in her world. It'd figure. Kisame offers Lain a rueful grin in return, willing enough to just roll with the punches.

I took a wrong turn like you wouldn't believe, kiddo. I'm sure I'll find it sooner than later, but are you sure fraying that thing doesn't just make it even uglier?

i'll just keep going a little bit because this interaction is clearly too funny to pass up...

[It's possibly that grin that saves him, and the peeved/suspicious look turns into a broad grin of her own]

Should I get you a little fish tank to put over your head filled with water? Must've been some wrong turn since you're in the desert and all.

[She looks down at her skirt and sighs like her life just can't get any worse. First world problems] Yeah, but if I didn't destroy it now it'd probably just keep finding its way into the closet.

[She shifts the scissors into the hand full of cloth and holds out her empty hand to him, chin lifted not only to look up at him, but in a show of fearless superiority; there's an air about her like a tiny queen that warns that underestimating her based on looks could hold dire consequences]

Name's Bold. I'm Neji's partner.

[The grin saves him, thankfully, and the introduction saves him from making any stupid mistakes over her identity; if Bold is Neji's partner, when Neji clearly had stated that Lain was his partner, then that obviously means Bold and Lain must be the same person, which would easily explain why Bold would get irritated with Lain leaving the house dressed a certain way. Easy as pie; he'll just have to find some way to keep track of which is which.

Kisame laughs outright, grin broadening, and reaches out to clasp Bold's hand in a firm shake. The imperious look is familiar enough to be almost relieving, to be honest--he's worked with the Akatsuki long enough to be more than familiar with the egos (and tempers) of child geniuses, and know that their powers often enough more than warrant a little humoring.]

Bold-taichou, is it? Nice to meet you; I'm Hoshigaki Kisame, one of your new subordinates. I'd say there's no need to bother with one of those; I was with a whole shiver of sharks before I got here, but I'm doing alright without. Then again, I'd also say you might want to start supervising shopping trips, if you have to cut up things that sneak into your closet like that.

[Neji watches the exchange with a critical eye, fingers itching to reach for the kunai tucked in his sleeves if Kisame even twitched aggressively. But the shark-nin's hand swamps Bold's and Neji doesn't relax until she has it back unbroken]

...That was an introduction and explanation I was hoping to save for later. [A Look at Bold for disrupting his plans, he shakes his head and glances back at Kisame] She has split personalities, though I wouldn't say it's a detriment to her mental health. It won't be difficult to tell them apart.

[Bold starts a moment, eyes wide at that 'taichou' attached to the end of it--that's not exactly something she's heard before in regards to her--before she breaks out into a wide grin again, clearly delighted. You've just completely cemented yourself in Bold's good graces, dude.

She opens her mouth to respond once her hand's back, but Neji beats her to the punch and she pouts a moment]

Not hard at all. I'm the cool one-- I talk more and I'm much more confident. Lain's quieter and politer; she's pretty shy. And our voices are totally different!

[Bold's personality also makes it hard to remember sometimes how young or small she is; she takes up every space and isn't afraid to let people know she's there. Lain, on the other hand, tries to take up as little space as possible, never wanted to take more then she absolutely needs out of respect of what another might want to use.]

[Kisame only chuckles again; just as he'd imagined, Bold must be considered secondary to Lain. And naturally, as a secondary personality, she must not get the respect she no doubt craves, either. Everybody does give precedence to the "original", don't they?

Well, whatever, he can handle this. Quite well, he figures, especially given how tensely Neji seems to be taking their meeting. There's no shame in being protective over your partner.....]

Plans are fleeting, anyway. But I already know a guy with split personalities, it's no big deal--I daresay you and Lain will be simple to keep track of, eh? You're the cool and confident one, Lain's the cute and shy one. Anything else I ought to know?

Not about us- at least for the moment.

[He sighs, looking Bold over, eyes lingering on the fraying edges of her skirt] Lain was trying to look nice today, Bold. If you wanted it modified, you should have consulted a tailor.

For now, you should go change; it's too short and threading apart. In the meantime, I'll show Kisame where he'll be patrolling in our zone.

[Bold nods along in agreement to Kisame--that's basically it for her and Lain-- and she turns her attention to Neji]

But that wouldn't have been as much fun! Why'd she want to look nice anyway? There's no one to impress!

And it's totally not too short. This is the style. I made it stylish. [She's also quite possibly making that up. Bold moves to Neji, grabbing at his arm as if to cement herself to him] No waaay, I'm coming with you!

Fair enough. Maybe I'd better let you two sort yourselves out and settle on just what we're doing next.

[Heh. Somehow, he's getting the feeling that this sort of thing isn't an isolated occurrence..... Well, that's certainly not his problem, is it? Neji can handle it, he's content just to watch. After all, if that's all he'll say about them "for the moment", then he's probably withholding some important information anyway. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course--but then again, there's nothing wrong with gathering intelligence on the people he'll be working with, either.]

[Neji huffs shortly as Lain latches onto him like a particularly persistent leech, glancing down at her with all the disdain of an elder sibling or scornful parent]

I don't see much of anyone else wearing frayed clothing.. At any rate, let's at least get Kisame to where he needs to be before we address anything else.

[She just smiles up at him, tugging him down to plant a kiss on his cheek at the (rather reluctant) agreement of her to go with them]

Yay~!

[She lets him go to dump the skirt pieces into the nearest trash can (along with the scissors because who needs them now!) before returning to loop her arm around Kisame's]

Neji can be a stick in the mud, but he's really great at being a zone leader! He's responsible and hard-working, so you never have to worry about if things are really getting done!

[She pauses, realizing she actually has no idea where they're gong] Where does he need to be?

[Kisame graciously surrenders his arm to Bold, shaking his head and huffing in amusement as he glances over at Neji. He thinks he's going to enjoy this--the two are awfully cute together, after all, and he does like kids.]

Is that so? I think I know his type, then..... Glad to hear we have someone we can rely on. How is it being partners with each other?
