Where Are They Now? (5 Year Edition)
This meme was done before in this game, right here, and that is where I am stealing it from. But instead of giving characters the option to return home in this hypothetical scenario, the war is still going on five years from the current date in-game, and BREW still needs everyone.
The question is, what has happened in those five years? The children have become adults, the adults are just a little older without being old, and goodness knows a lot can change in that amount of time. Maybe you're thriving, in your business or your partnership. Maybe not. Either way, with no end in sight, life goes on in the city named after Death.
INSTRUCTIONS
-Post with your characters(s)
-Write a short blurb about what has happened in five years. Love, heartbreak, sickness, wealth, what was in the cards for your Weapon or Meister, and what has it shaped them into? Set a scene for the present.
-Tag others in the scene they kindly set.
-Profit$$$$$$$$

Matt | Desu Noto
He is 24 years old, still smokes like a chimney, has nearly every single game that has came out in the past 5 years, and spends too much time surrounding himself with electronics. He is still cynical regarding the world, and cares little for it except for the people he cares for. Eats two meals a day but only because he sets the timer up, and mostly he buys food made by someone else. He still forgets to sleep, but at least his room isn’t as messy as before.
Overall, Matt didn’t change. He didn’t change one bit. And maybe that’s a good thing, maybe that’s a bad thing. Who would know?
But he learned he enjoyed the sound of the rain.
And he learned he enjoyed the early sun, after all.
And he learned he is overall grateful for things he didn’t know he was grateful before.
And that is definitively a good thing. ]

Job's finished, thanks for asking.
[ He doesn't even bother with a standard greeting anymore. Just slopes on in, rests his chin on Matt's head.
Sup shorty. ]
no subject
All's done for the day, by the way. Oh, and a new laptop arrived.
no subject
[ At least he'd grown out of the habit of consciously trying to mess up Matt's game. ]
For repair or wanton misuse?
no subject
[ The redhead rises his head, just so he can look at Sollux, as he pauses his game ]
You can try it, if you want.
no subject
He wrinkles his nose when he walks inside, making his distaste for this whole thing Quite Obvious.]
It's a wonder you can breathe while in this place.
no subject
It became my superpower after so many years of smoking. I am Oxygen man, capable of stealing oxygen from air and breathing with all of the smoke around. [ he actually would have said this with more life and not so dead-pan, but the game. It's more important than sarcasm. ]
no subject
[That would have sounded affectionate had it came from anyone else but Near; as it is, it's one of many little things that show how much Mello's rubbed off on him.
The Weapon's expression doesn't change as he navigates through complete chaos, until he finally sits down on a chair-- but not without clearing it first, because there's just too much crap thrown around every available surface.]
I have a new job for you and your matesprit.
[He just can't resist teasing him about Sollux.]
no subject
What's the job? [ he keeps playing, though. Multitasking is awesome, after all ]
no subject
[Troll romance really can't apply to humans at all; he knows this.
Near reaches for his pocket and pulls out a memory card, then throws it onto Matt's desk. The files are heavily encrypted like always; he can't risk having someone snatch it away and see what's in it, after all. Top Secret bsns means srs bsns.]
Everything you need to know about it is in that memory card.
no subject
Not with Near. ]
Hm. How nice of you to came all the way to drop this. [ and not call Matt to go pick it ]
Is everything okay?
no subject
[Saying that out loud almost makes him gag.
Anyway. While he usually doesn't stay very long, and even though he dislikes and sucks at small talk, there is something else he wants to talk to Matt about.]
How kind of you to ask. Yes, everything is okay, but there is something I want to ask you about: what is Mello planning?
[He knows his partner is up to something, but he doesn't know what, and that annoys him to no end.]
no subject
Matt smiles and returns back to his game ]
You should know by now that, even if I knew anything, I wouldn't tell you.
no subject
[He probably isn't; they've been partners in crime enough times by now that Mello knows Near would probably help him with whatever stunt he's trying to pull, but he still doesn't want him to get in trouble.]
Don't you care about his well being, Matt?
no subject
[ matt shrugs ] But honestly I have no idea. I assume he would faster tell you, even so. Since you are his weapon. [ and Mello often needs weapons (a weapon) for this plans, if they are dangerous ]

The familiar grumbling makes him smile.]
Heh, you're practically immortal in those games.
no subject
This has to be a bit of a challenge, after all.
no subject
[He grows more serious, reluctantly, but he ought to tell Matt.]
I went to see L today.
no subject
[ at the change of subject, though, Matt's fingers halt for a moment, before he continues, eyes set on the small screen.
No use asking how L is. He knows. ]
Hm. Anything new?
no subject
We played chess. I told him about being about to hit Death Scythe.
[Not 'wanted to' or 'tried to,' which should be enough for Matt to know it was a good day.]
no subject
[ Matt still has little connection to L; he never really spoke much to him and knows nearly nothing about him still. He knows Mello and Near are close to the man, though, so he is sympathetic about it, and he does keep the same respect and amazement towards whom L is (was). ]
Did Near come along, too?
no subject
[It's usually better that way. Near has his own issues about seeing L, and even though they've never talked about it much, Mello can figure out what most of them are. And for L's part, the chances of him being dangerously disassociated and seeing Near as an imminent threat are high enough that it's a bad risk. It doesn't help, Mello knows, that L always found Near too unnerving to like him.]
I already talked to your boyfriend, but I want a hand from you two for the surprise party.
no subject
Are you really going to do the surprise party? [ no, it's just.
Mello doing surprise parties.
Mello and anything related to "partying". ]
Do we get a DJ?
no subject
[It would be hard to think of anything that would make Near run away from his own party faster.]
The robots you two are going to make for me will be much better.
no subject
Is this going to be an engagement party? Because robots scream "marriage". [ he can't help himself ]
