He gets accused of being one quite often. (and really with his dealings with the Ring, one does wonder!) He also comes from the land were card game battles with people who want to beat you up/humiliate you/kill you through a game and steal your shiny magical dodad windup becoming your best friends.

So. Uh. He's kinda environmentally predisposed to be a shonen idiot. Because his best friend defies the laws of sanity and makes friends with everyone and he kinda idealizes him. So. Yeah.
